Our History

Submeter One has grown out of AMP (Apartment Metering Plan). AMP was originally formed from experiences of the founder's affiliated utility engineering and management companies. These affiliate companies, Simmons J. Barry & Associates and Utility Operators, Inc., had a history of designing and operating water, sewer and natural gas systems totaling over 20,000 utility customers in Louisiana and included proprietary written software and systems for utility billing and collection.

In 1978, AMP was formed and submetered its first apartment community in Baton Rouge, LA, and rapidly increased operations to cover all of Louisiana, Houston, and Atlanta. Over thirty thousand apartments have been submetered. These systems provided for the billing of residents for the consumption of electricity, energy in chilled water and natural gas-fired HVAC systems, hot water, water and sewer, and garbage type utilities.

Today Submeter One offers electric and water submetering with remote reading capabilities, including remote disconnect options for electric services. Residents can use the Internet to pay utility bills and to monitor their own accounts.
